10 Best Nepali Songs (My List)

There are SO many Nepali songs out there - for such a small country, there are many singers, songwriters, and "Kollywood" musicals putting out their music nearly every week, it seems.
Fortunately for Nepali entertainment fans, pretty much 100% of movies and songs are released by their creators/companies on YouTube where they can be enjoyed for free.
Here is a list of some of my favorite/most famous Nepali songs. (This is not an exhaustive list, there is plenty more great Nepali music to be found and I might have to make a Part 2, 3, 4....)
Keep reading to find out (and listen to) my favorites.

Syndicate by Bipul Chettri
Though not technically from Nepal, this song in the Nepali language is a great roadtrip song about missed opportunities - the singer and his love interest are travelling in opposite directions.

Saili
This is a catchy, modern-but-traditional Nepali song.

K Yo Maya Ho
"Is this love?" is the message of this single, which, although it's a few years old and a bit teeny-bopper-ish, is still one of my favorites.

 Purva Paschim Rail
"East-West Railway"
This song has taken Nepal by storm and if you live here or come to visit, you're sure to hear it at least once. It's fun to dance to!

Funtastic (Pani Paryo)
This takes the classic Nepali song/nursery rhyme and turns it into a fun dance song. Pani Paryo means "it's raining."

Jaalma
Another wildly popular song, this has a unique rhythm and is a great soundtrack for a day out having fun.

 Nira
"Nira jaile risaune" - Nira is always getting angry.... But this song about her is sweet, soothing, and has more of a modern Bollywood vibe than other Nepali songs.

Sarangi Retaula
This is a traditional-style Nepali song about the sound of "sarangi" - the Nepali equivalent to a violin or fiddle - and the hope of meeting again with your sweetheart one day.

Resham Firiri
Ahh, here it is, the MOST FAMOUS Nepali song ever. It's actually not that old - maybe 20-30 years at most - but everyone in Nepal knows it, pretty much. Tourists will recognize it as the song resonating through the streets of Thamel (the shopping/tourist district of Kathmandu) as buskers play it on their sarangis.

Bistarai - Rohit John Chettri
This is my personal favorite Nepali song, the perfect lullaby. It's such a sweet-sounding song that you can enjoy even if you don't speak a word of Nepali.
Bistarai bistarai means "softly, slowly" which fits exactly with the song's mood.
